A Follow-Along Psalm 27 Scripture Prayer

Psalm 27 Guided Scripture Prayer

1 The Lord is my light and my salvation;

    whom shall I fear?

The Lord is the stronghold of my life;

    of whom shall I be afraid?

Dear God,

Thank you for being the light that illuminates the darkness. Because of you, I am saved. You provide a safe place for me to rest and find comfort. I have nothing to fear because you are with me…

2 When evildoers assail me

    to eat up my flesh,

my adversaries and foes,

    it is they who stumble and fall.

3 Though an army encamp against me,

    my heart shall not fear;

though war arise against me,

    yet I will be confident.

Some days I feel like I am being attacked from every side. My hope fades as I look at the circumstances surrounding me, but I don’t need to be afraid. I can have confidence because of you alone…

4 One thing have I asked of the Lord,

    that will I seek after:

that I may dwell in the house of the Lord

    all the days of my life,

to gaze upon the beauty of the Lord

    and to inquire in his temple.

There is nothing more heart-comforting or satisfying than dwelling with you, Lord. I long to spend time with you, seeking after you. In these few moments alone with you, show me your beauty. As I lift my eyes toward you, my problems fade…

5 For he will hide me in his shelter

    in the day of trouble;

he will conceal me under the cover of his tent;

    he will lift me high upon a rock.

6 And now my head shall be lifted up

    above my enemies all around me,

and I will offer in his tent

    sacrifices with shouts of joy;

I will sing and make melody to the Lord.

7 Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud;

    be gracious to me and answer me!

8 You have said, “Seek my face.”

My heart says to you,

    “Your face, Lord, do I seek.”

Your Word says when I seek you I will find you, if I seek you with my whole heart. Father, I come into your presence today for nothing more than to be with you. I am letting go of my own agenda and seeking you with my whole heart. Wrap me in your loving embrace…

9     Hide not your face from me.

Turn not your servant away in anger,

    O you who have been my help.

Cast me not off; forsake me not,

    O God of my salvation!

10 For my father and my mother have forsaken me,

    but the Lord will take me in.

11 Teach me your way, O Lord,

    and lead me on a level path

    because of my enemies.

12 Give me not up to the will of my adversaries;

    for false witnesses have risen against me,

    and they breathe out violence.

13 I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord

    in the land of the living!

14 Wait for the Lord;

    be strong, and let your heart take courage;

    wait for the Lord! (ESV)

(Take a minute right now to call out the names of your loved ones to the Father. As we wait for him, we can take courage knowing he is working on their behalf…)

Thank you for showing us your goodness, God. I will remember your promises as I go about my day. Thank you for hope, peace, and confidence through your son, Jesus. Amen.

A Psalm 107 Prayer for You

Sometimes hard circumstances take hold of our thoughts and won’t let go. Psalm 107 offers a life-giving antidote like nothing this world can offer.

Whether we are facing the wilderness, bondage, sickness, or a storm, God hears us. We only need to call on Him.

Praying Scriptures back to God will help us change our thinking, claim His promises as truth, and turn our hearts toward Him.

I’ve written this prayer based on the truths in Psalm 107. Read this prayer inspired by Psalm 107 when hard things threaten to hold your thoughts hostage.

A Psalm 107 Scripture Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

Your Word says in Psalm 107:43 to “ponder the loving deeds of the Lord.” As I think about your loving deeds today, I am thankful for the wonderful things you have done for me.

I know that “in this life we will have trouble.” (John 16:33) But sometimes, it seems like one struggle after another. When difficulties consume my thoughts and I can’t see an end in sight, help me rely on your promises. Bring back to my mind the Truth of Psalm 107, so I can take those negative thoughts captive (2 Cor. 10:5) and replace them with the goodness of your Word.

When I’m faced with problems I can’t solve or tough decisions to make, I know I can call on you and you will answer. Even when I’m wandering aimlessly without any help in sight, you will “deliver me from my distress” and “lead me by a straight way.” (Ps. 107:6-7)

Because of your unfailing love, You have never given up on me. I’ve fought against you and run away from You, but you always pursue me. Again and again, you offer grace and mercy to break the chains of sin and shame in my life. Thank you Lord for bringing me “out of darkness into your wonderful light.” (1 Peter 2:9)

When I cry out to you in pain, you hear me and heal me. And even when the pain lingers, you bring peace to my situation with your glorious presence, a peace that sustains me through the hardest times. That peace also surrounds me when scary things happen and “my courage melts away.” (Ps. 107:26) Thank you for stilling the storms to a whisper and hushing the waves of the sea. (Ps. 107:29)

For all of these things I give thanks to you, Lord! I hand my struggles to you today and praise you for taking care of my needs. I walk in victory knowing your lovingkindness never fails. You are my good and merciful Father.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
